"Añoranzas" was established in March 1944 in the Esteiro neighborhood of Ferrol by Juanito Yáñez, who took charge of its music and artistic direction, with lyrics crafted by Francisco Sarachaga. The foundation's mission was clear: to uphold the tradition of celebrating the "Night of the Pepitas" and honoring the women of Ferrol with vibrant music. After a brief hiatus, the group triumphantly resumed its activities in 1952, boasting an impressive 86 members—the largest ensemble ever recorded in Ferrol’s history. During the Night of the Pepitas in 1962, they proudly performed under the name "Harmony of Añoranzas de Esteiro." In January 1983, a dedicated group of former members, led by Reyes Yáñez, the founder's nephew, took decisive action to revive the old rondalla. They adopted the name "Añoranzas" and made a powerful comeback during the Night of the Pepitas, significantly contributing to the cultural landscape under the musical direction of Juan Hernández. Their repertoire featured standout pieces such as "Rondadores," the dance "Rosa de Abril," and the waltz "Madrigalesca." With overwhelming support from the public, they committed to promoting Ferrol’s musical heritage, retrieving old scores—some dating back to the nineteenth century—that had long been neglected. As they prepare for the 2024 edition, they will have proudly participated in 42 consecutive editions of the Night of the Pepitas, marking a monumental achievement in the celebration's history. Rondalla Añoranzas continues to assertively share the rich musical legacy of Ferrol throughout Galicia and Asturias. Their performances have graced television programs (including TVG and TVE in Galicia), and they have shared the stage with the Band of the Royal House and participated in the reopening of the Jofre Theater, attended by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain. Moreover, Rondalla Añoranzas plays a vital role in events sponsored by the City Council of Ferrol through the "Ferrol a Escea" program and is actively involved in initiatives organized by the Diputación de A Coruña. Their mission is unequivocal: to ensure that Ferrol’s cultural heritage, particularly the "ferrol song," remains alive and thriving.
Currently, the organization is led by D. Ricardo González Sedes, with musical direction provided by D. Pascual Montesinos Orts.
