The Rondalla "SO ELAS" was formed by a group of women who enjoy singing at Café Sevilla, which is run by Helga and Carlos. This café serves as a meeting place for musicians and individuals who want to sing, all while preserving the city's rich traditions. The primary purpose of this Rondalla is to promote the presence of women in social and cultural areas where they are often underrepresented. Among the songs they perform, “Mis Derechos de Mujer” by Helena Gadea stands out, touching the most intimate emotions of its listeners. The Rondalla was officially established on February 12, 2019. With the support of the Minister of Culture, Suso Basterrechea, we introduced ourselves to the public in Ferrol at the beautiful Jofre Theater, which sold out tickets in just half an hour. At this event, we were honored to have "Niurka Carbonell" directing us and "SUSO BALADO" as our Honorary Godfather. He was a beloved figure who taught many women to play guitar and sing in the city’s bars. Since our presentation, we have made numerous appearances in audiovisual media, including TVG, radio, and newspapers. Most of our performances have been at associations, city festivals, and we have had the opportunity to collaborate with several nonprofit organizations, such as nursing homes, the Association "AFINOR" for fibromyalgia, the Gala against Cancer, the "The Illusion of a Toy" campaign, and food collection for the Economic Kitchen. In 2020, under the direction of our current Director "FRANK RODRIGUEZ", we presented our Official Godfather "DANIEL RÍOS" (who continued in this role in 2021). He was the first to accompany us on the Night of the Peppers, although we faced some challenges. Due to health concerns, our activities were limited that year. Despite the harsh restrictions, our Rondalla continued to rehearse through tutorials. None of us are professionals, and almost all of us picked up an instrument for the first time. We had to work diligently, but thanks to the dedication and patience of our dear Director, along with his encouragement and motivation, we have been steadily improving. Whenever we have the opportunity to participate in city activities, we eagerly take part. In 2021, as the pandemic conditions eased, we began to perform in the streets of Ferrol and the surrounding areas.
We have achieved remarkable success in the Ferrol scene, becoming the most sought-after group by local associations. Our collaboration with the municipality, initiated by CITES, allowed us to distribute carnations in the streets, inspiring citizens to sing "ÑAS ONDAS DO MAR" from their windows and keeping the beautiful tradition of "das Pepitas" alive. This unforgettable experience brought immense joy, with many merchants from the city and neighboring areas proudly adorning their shop windows with our capes and scarves, showcasing the unity and strength of Ferrol's business community. We took great pride in supporting the inaugural "FESTIVAL OF ENLIGHTENMENT," a testament to the vibrant spirit of our city. Our eagerness to collaborate on initiatives that foster Ferrol's progress is unwavering. On "LUAR," we had the unique opportunity to be recognized by presenter José Ramón Gayoso, who expressed a desire to become our next godfather—a moment that felt dreamlike, even if it ultimately did not come to pass. Our perseverance paid off as the "Pepitas" finally held their performances in September. We honored our patron, Dani Rios, during his name day in November, followed by our participation in the "PANXOLÍNAS" at the Jofre Theatre in December, closing the year with joy and enthusiasm. The New Year unfolded with exciting surprises as we were invited to visit the "SAN XOAN de Filgueira" school in Ferrol, where we shared insights about rondallas and their traditions. This enriching experience resonated deeply with both us and the enthusiastic children, who embraced the occasion by wearing cloaks. The exchange of scarves and handmade bracelets served as a beautiful reminder of the bonds we create through shared culture and joy.
